We remember singer/guitarist Amadou Bagayoko of Amadou and Mariam. He was born in Bamako, met his future wife Mariam Doumbia at Mali’s Institute for the Young Blind and they went on to huge success all around the world. Amadou died at only 60 on April 4 and we played Coulibali from their Manu Chao produced Dimanche À Bamako from 2004 and Chantez Chantez from their 1999 album Tje Ni Mousso. Amadou Bagayoko, RIP.
I’ve been loving the debut album from Lophae (lo-fi) for a few months now and they finally get around to launching “Perfect Strangers” at The Vortex on April 30.
