We lost two (more) musical giants over the past few weeks: Terry Reid mixed rock, soul, Brazilian influences and jazz, all delivered with the best blue eyed rock and soul voice of his generation – his contemporaries included Rod Stewart, Paul Rodgers, Frankie Miller, Robert Palmer, Robert Plant, Jess Roden, Steve Marriot – and you’ll have to take my word for the brilliance of his Bossa Nova styled live version of The Beach Boys’ Don’t Worry Baby. Terry died on August 4 aged 75.

Pianist, bandleader and composer, Eddie Palmieri, died aged 88 on August 6. Eddie was known as a Salsa and Latin Jazz player but he preferred the terms Afro-Cuban, Afro-Caribbean or Afro-World. In any case he revolutionised/initiated what became known as Salsa with his Conjunto La Perfecta release in 1962 – which replaced the traditional flute/violin frontline with a heavier trombone-led sound – through to his final release Mi Luz Mayor in 2018 which was dedicated to his late wife, Iraida.
