Corto.alto, who was excellent at Cross The Tracks back during our first heatwave in late May, Fergus McCreadie and Mama Terra all representing Scotland in their own differing ways; newness from Domi & JD Beck which emphasises vocals much more than their Blue Note debut of all of 4 years ago; the title Hyperjazz tells the story of the Sarah Tandy contribution to the show; Brooklyn producer, Ahmed Sirour’s T.G.I.F., wears its Meters influence on its sleeve so playing a classic from The Meters was definitely in order; excellent new big band Salsa from Orchestra Mambo International and a classic from the late Puerto Rican virtuoso conguero, Daniel Poncé, (check out both DJ Lubi and Henry Horton’s shows on One Jazz for much more Salsa sabor); soulful Bugalu from The Womack Sisters who are part of the legendary Soul dynasty and signed to Daptone; more from Norwegian flautist Nils Petter Molvaer’s ‘Be Quiet’ release and US flautist, Elsa Nilsson’s Band of Pulses does her own thing on her chosen instrument.
