Gerry Lyseight Presents: Near Enough For Jazz (6 March 2026) – One Jazz Radio

Avishai Cohen kicks off the show with an excellent tune from 2024’s Brightlight ahead of a few headline gigs at Ronnie Scott’s in May.

Har-You Percussion Group’s slightly loose but ultimately glorious Welcome To The Party totally delivers on its title, and 45 Trio offer up an excellent take on Tenorio Junior’s timeless, Nebulosa, available on a Jazz Room 7″.

We remember the great Willie Colón a true giant of Salsa. He was best known as a trombonist, arranger, writer, producer, vocalist and bandleader who, as well as being a major star in his own right, released joint albums with both the King and Queen of Salsa: Tito Puente and Celia Cruz.

Willie Colón was also crucial to the careers of Héctor Lavoe and Rubén Blades and collaborated on many major albums with each of them, so we get tunes from them both. Willie Colón (April 28, 1950 – February 21, 2026), may he rest in peace

Celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8th we feature arranger, pianist, and bandleader Maria Schneider, trumpeter Ingrid Jensen’s recent release and more from the excellent Joni’s Jazz boxed set. The Joni Mitchell connection continues with classic Wayne Shorter and we end with reissued Gábor Szabó on Vampisoul.
