On August 6 we lost the great pianist, bandleader, writer and innovator Eddie Palmieri, at the age of 88. Eduardo Palmieri was born in NYC of Puerto Rican (and Italian) heritage and was known as for his leading role in Latin Jazz and the birth of Salsa although he preferred the term Afro-Cuban or even Afro-World. I played 3 Eddie Palmieri performances: one from the 60’s (with Cal Tjader), one from the 90s and one from his final album in 2018, Mi Luz Mayor. May he rest in peace.
Lots of Latin/Latin Jazz in this show with Tania Maria, Flora Purim, Miguel Zenon and Milton Nascimento featured with Wayne Shorter. There’s Zoe Rahman from her Colour Of Sound release, more newness from Lophae, and Norwegian trumpeter Nils Petter Molvær revisits his Khmer album with a live version of Song of Sand.
You’re welcome!
