They Shot The Piano Player (pictured) was part of the BFI London Film Festival about the life and talent of pianist Tenorio Jr who was ‘disaappeared’ by the Argentinian ‘junta’ 1976 at the age of 24 while on tour in Argentina with Toquinho and Vinícius de Moraes. He went out for a sandwich/cigarettes and was never seen again. The film is an animated documentary featuring interviews Elis Regina, Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, Tom Jobim and many more all talking about the music scene in Brasil especially after the advent of Bossa Nova exemplified by Chega De Saudade (No More Blues) written by Vinicius and Tom Jobim, as well as stories about “Bottle Alley” in Rio where the residents got so fed up with late night Bossa sessions that they used to throw bottles out of their windows. This led to me playing  Nebulosa, the Tenorio Jr. classic as well as Chega De Saudade and a couple of other bits of brazilliance.
