Mambista events at Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses have become highlights of the summer, described as “magical” with very good reason. BPCG is a beautiful setting, the music – live and recorded – is ‘broader than Broadway’ and always top notch, the food – from Carey’s Kitchen – is scrumptious and the events attract sell-out crowds ranging from toddlers to the ‘more mature’.

We kick off the first Mambista at BPCG of 2023 with a trio featuring jaw-dropping ‘gypsy jazz’ guitarist Ducato Piotrowski.

Sunday June 18th – Ducato Piotrowski Trio  (Gypsy Jazz) 

Ducato was born in Poland to a Roma family. He started playing guitar at 10 when his father showed him a few chords, which inspired Ducato to watch what other guitarists did and learn from them. He is entirely self-taught and when he discovered, and fell in love with, the playing of Django Reinhardt it was a revelation, having a huge impact on his life.

Sunday July 23rd – Roger Beaujolais Latin Quartet (special Latin Jazz set) 

Vibes virtuoso Roger Beaujolais was a founder member of jump/jive band “The Chevalier Brothers”, played and recorded with Fairground (it’s got to be e e e e e e e Perfect) Attraction; recorded 4 albums with his Beaujolais Band for Acid Jazz and 2 more for Acid Jazz under the Vibraphonic moniker. He later formed the Roger Beaujolais Quintet and has done sessions for Robert Plant, Kirsty MacColl, Tony Allen, Rumer, Neneh Cherry, 4Hero, Snowboy, & many more.

SATURDAY August 19th – Michael “Bammi” Rose (Jazz, Ska, Reggae) 

Another evening of superb music guaranteed by Michael ‘Bammi’ Rose. Bammi has the bona fides having played with Jazz Jamaica, Aswad, Jazz Warriors, Jools Holland’s Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, Cymande, the Graceland Tour with Paul Simon, Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba.

No jestering with this crew, they know their business!

Sunday September 17th – Alvorada – (Choro) 

A Mambista Summer at Brockwell Park Community Greenhouses wouldn’t be complete without an evening spent in the company of Alvorada and their repertoire of choro tunes and rhythms from Rio.

Based in London, Alvorada are the UK’s leading performers of choro, a rich and uplifting style of instrumental music from Rio de Janeiro. Alvorada explore influences from all over Brazil, playing choros with the irresistible swing of samba and maxixe from the South to baiгo from the Northeast, all with a swing and vibrancy that nourishes the soul.

BPCG is in the middle of Brockwell Park, between the tennis courts and the walled gardens. Follow the signs. If you are driving to the gig, we recommend parking your car on Dulwich Road or near Dulwich Road as exit from the Park after dark is via the Lido Gates on Dulwich Road.
