Laydeez and Gentlefolk, on Friday April 7th Mambista is chuffed to be bringing you Remembering Rico – A Celebration of the music of Rico Rodriguez MBE (1934 – 2015) featuring guys who played alongside Rico in his own bands (and during his time with Jazz Jamaica and Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra), playing the tunes he left here for us to learn. Rico was also an integral part of 2 Tone legends, The Specials.

Alongside their work with the late Rico these musicians’ CVs include stints with everyone from the Jazz Warriors to Aswad to Georgie Fame to Ska Cubano to Kitty, Daisy and Lewis and The Beatles.

This is a one-off. Not to be missed so it might be an idea to book early! You lucky, lucky people!!!

Big thanks to everyone who came down to Mambista last Friday for Nérija. The feedback was amazing. You can catch Né́rija on BBC iplayer for the next month playing live on BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends. Listen here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04txtvx and you can buy the Né́rija EP here: https://nerijamusic.bandcamp.com/album/n-rija-ep

PS My next live show on www.phonic.fm will be this Sunday 12/3/17 at 20.00 (previous shows archived at www.mixcloud.com/mambista).

Keepin’ it local.

*”The desired location, for the duration” was the term used to describe the Dew Drop Inn, New Orleans in “Sweet Little Sixteen”, the first part of an excellent BBC4 documentary series called “Rock ‘n’ Roll America”. Still available on iplayer and, as they say, essential viewing.

Friday March 17th sees Folk Of The Wood’s St. Patrick’s Ceili with Ceilidh Tree live and the Shotley Crue return to The Portico Gallery.
