Mostly brand spanking new and in one case, not released yet. The exceptions are the previously unreleased Sun Ra from ’86 and new remixes of Yellowtail featuring Mark Murphy.
Audrey Powne is yet another Australian artist to get my attention over the last couple of years; Jonathan Powell is a U.S. based trumpeter in and around the Latin Jazz scene; and American drummer, Mark Guiliana, delivers on his new album, MARK.
Bolbec offer up Vengeance Tropicale which suggests the 6/8 soundtrack to a 60s French coming-of-age movie full of mini skirts and Lambrettas; and I currently can’t get enough of Jimetta Rose & the Voices of Creation (pictured). They make you feel as per their album title that “Things Are Getting Better”.
K3:lu (pronounced Curlew) is where handclapping Afrobeat meets jazz fusion but it doesn’t yet have a release date. Trumpeter-bandleader Bill Warfield takes us to the end another episode of Near Enough For Jazz with his well-named Hell’s Kitchen Funk Orchestra.
