Happy New Year! My first All Kinds Of Everything show on Totally Wired of 2024 and, as always, doing what it says on the tin. Afro and Afro-influenced beginnings, some jazzy Latin, electronic ‘new jazz’ from the already great, DOMi & JD Beck, and also from Special Feelings and their eponymously titled album out of Australia; a couple from Brasil Novo, young singer/songwriter Morgan Harper-Jones and a young Dory Previn from 1958 (Langdon as was) followed by the Rahsaan Roland Kirk (pictured) classic “Serenade To A Cuckoo”; new old-sounding Soul from Jalen Ngonda and vintage Soul from 1970 with Marie Queen Lyons.
“Funky” Cuban Jazz from virtuoso pianist Harold López-Nussa, and funky grunge from Blue Mode with their take on Feels Like Teen Spirit; some excellent new Salsa; channeling prime Sly & Robbie, Dean Fraser and Robert “Dubwise” Browne take on Grover Washington Jr.’s “Mister Magic” followed by AEO, the 3rd track featured from Paul Murphy’s excellent Jazz Room label; a spiritual jazz take on “Compared To What” popularised by Les McCann (RIP) from Kahil El’Zabar’s Ethnic Heritage Ensemble; another cut from “Eddie Piller & Dean Rudland present… ACID JAZZ (NOT JAZZ): WE’VE GOT A FUNKY BEAT” from The Ballistic Brothers vs. The Eccentric Afros, and closing the show with some Afrobeat from Tel Aviv.
