J Hus (pictured) and Little Simz representing London-based African diaspora; deep, fierce, swinging Salsa dura from NYC and Puerto Rico featuring giants of the genre, pioneering South African Jazz from Allen Kwela and a whole new SA rhythm, Amapiano, that I’m enjoying before it either blows up or blands out, maybe both.

Afrobeat meets Broken Beat via Muito Kaballa, a Cologne-based afro-fusion collective; glorious new Gospel from Blind Boys of Alabama who’ve been doing their righteous thing since 1939 (with a few personnel changes but no lowering of standards), funky Gospel from New York Community Choir from a new Mr Bongo comp “Record Club 6” and a fine edit from The Reflex of Roy Ayers’ “Everybody Loves The Sunshine” by Heidi Leonore that I missed when it was first around in 2014 but still sounding great; some jazz dance from Ann Young & Yuji Ohno Trio from “The Sublime Sound Of Yuji Ohno” comp out next month on Wewantsounds; “Ladders” the title track of the new album from Washington DC’s The Loving Paupers, whose music I first heard on this ‘ere Totally Wired Radio station played by the great Dr. Bob Jones.

Soul Revivers’ Nick Manasseh and David Hill come correct with help from Sheila Maurice-Grey (MS MAURICE) and Anoushka Nanguy from London jazz ensemble Kokoroko. And something rather fine from Paul Murphy’s Jazz Room records putting a cherry on top of the proceedings by just managing to fit all 7 minutes 17 seconds of “Affirmation by Danny Ward & Reality”” into the show.
