Soulful Strut has always been known to me as “Am I The Same Girl?” by Barbara Acklin but it also works really well as an instrumental. This time with Monty Alexander & Sly & Robbie on the credits. South Atlantic Groove Project made its live debut at the last Mambista event at Brockwell Park Community Greenhouse where – despite intermittent rain – SAGP played two great sets to a lovely response from the crowd. Joanna Eden guested with SAGP and band leader Andy Lafone featured on bass, the same roles he took in Negrocan.
I also played new music from Thee Sacred Souls on Daptone, Tomin, Patricia Brennan Septet, El Khat (pictured) Spanish Harlem Orchestra, The Allergies from Bristol, Javier Fernandez, Mackwood and Charlie Stacey, Raz and Afla, New Regency Orchestra, Resavoir, Knox Fortune.
Modern Country star Maren Morris’s “Better Than We Found It” could be heard at The Democratic National Convention held in Chicago and Stevie Wonder performed his “Higher Ground” live but I played the excellent ‘The Reflex Revision’.
