After 10 years of joyous nights Mambista is leaving the building.
For the penultimate Mambista at The Portico Pleasure Palace we host Remembering Rico at 90 with a band of brothers led by Michael “Bammi” Rose. Back in 2017 one of the great Mambista nights was dedicated to the life and music of the legendary Ska, Reggae, Jazz and 2 Tone trombonist Rico Rodriguez MBE featuring many of the musicians who played alongside Rico in his long career, and it’s that time again!

Remembering Trombonist Rico Rodriguez MBE who worked with Prince Buster, Jools Holland’s Rhythm n Blues Orchestra, Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames, Jazz Jamaica, Linton Kwesi Johnson et al as well as making classic recordings under his own name such as “Man from Wareika” and, most memorably, The Specials on their hit version of A Message To You, Rudy.
Rico was taught to play the the trombone by Don Drummond of The Skatalites. While in Jamaica Rico played with Count Ossie and got together with Georgie Fame on arriving in London in 1961.
