Also … there’s a section in Tito Puente’s vibraphone-led version of Maria Cervantes that has always reminded me of Donald Fagen’s “The Goodbye Look” from his fabulous solo album, “The Nightfly”. It’s the part where he sings: “Behind the big casino on the beach”, and I really rate the Mel Torme version that i play on the show. It may be a Rikki Don’t Lose That Number/Song For My Father situation, and maybe not. Two more tasty ingredients in any case.
